[That was the easy part of the message. The rest- both came with a rush of excitement that he'd taken interest in her skills, and a rush of anxiety that he would be disappointed by her.]

Join you? Isn't it important for you to verify my abilities first?

A dragon was slain recently on this island. If it's true that you took part in such a feat, your abilities would be exceptional, even if the other claims made about you were lies. It would be an easy thing to confirm.

Even so, understand this is not an offer I make lightly. You will be expected to prove both your abilities and your loyalty, and discard your allegiance to this "Ultimate Despair". Are you prepared to do both?

[The rest of the message took a little longer for her to reply to. She had no doubts about proving her capabilities, or about her loyalty- those were traits that came easily to her- but letting go of her allegiance to Junko? That was a much bigger ask.

Could she even be anything else? Someone like her?

...She remembered when Darin helped her confront an illusion of Junko at the rapids- how she wanted to give her despair by betraying her. It was still complicated though, and she wasn't really sure how to express that to someone she barely knew. It wasn't as if anyone else who was part of Ultimate Despair was in this world.

Besides, when else would she get to learn from someone as incredible as this?
